A rare and large German metal hour-striking clock watch, circa 1570. It has a gilt movement with a verge escapement. The dial is made of gilt metal and has an outer chapter ring with engraved Roman numerals and twelve touch pins. The inner 24-hour Arabic divisions are engraved with German Z for the numeral 2. There is a pinhole for setting the striking, and the centre is decorated with foliage. The case is large and tambour-shaped with a hinged front cover with twelve openings to reveal the hour markers. The back is also decorated with pierced and engraved floral and foliage decorations.
