A stunning piece of horological history, this 14 Carat gold watch boasts a case and movement with matching numbers 18114 and was made by Julius Assman in Glashütte, Germany, circa 1895. The plain open faced case of this watch was crafted from 14 Carat gold and the original, stepped white enamel dial adds to the watch’s authenticity and charm and the red gold hands complement the dial beautifully, creating a cohesive and elegant look. The precision movement features a moustache lever escapement and fine adjustment, ensuring accurate timekeeping.
Dial, case and movement are signed and the dust cover is engraved with Plaque Or G.P..

Julius Assmann was born in 1827 and died in 1886 at the age of 58. He was a passionate watchmaker in Glashütte, Germany. Assmann at one time was employed by his father-in-law, Ferdinand Adolph Lange, the man who laid the cornerstone of the German watchmaking industry in the 1840s. He founded his own company in 1852, the Julius Assmann Deutsche Präzisions-Taschenuhren-Fabrik (German Precision Pocket Watch Factory) producing key wound pocket watches. Assmann was soon awarded the gold medal by the German Trade Industry. Within two years, his watches progressed to crown winding and the three-quarter plates so characteristic of Glashütte. When he died his company was divided among the Assmann family.
