Gold hunting cased pocket watch by J. Assmann
–
A very fine, rare splendour Glashütte hunting cased pocket watch – manufactured in quality 1A, circa 1880.
The 18-carat gold case of this hunter watch is exquisitely decorated with an engine-turned pattern and a monogram cartouche with ornamental flowers on the lid. The rim and band of the case are similarly decorated with flowers, as is the bow. Even showing some signs of age, the silvered dial – with Roman numerals, subsidiary dial for the seconds, and Fleur-de-Lys hands – is splendid. Its centre part is lavishly decorated with engraved flowers and lovingly framed by applied gold ornaments. Nickel-plated 3/4 plate movement, screwed gold chatons, pink gold centre wheel, gold screw compensation balance, gold lever and escape wheel and chatoned diamond endstone on balance. Dome, dial, and movement signed. This hunter watch is truly a wonderful show-piece.
