Gold verge pocket watch by Antoni Bradel
–
A German gold, pair cased, quarter repeating, repoussé verge watch, circa 1739. This watch features a gilded full plate movement with a verge escapement, complemented by a finely pierced and engraved double footed balance cock. It includes a fusee and chain, a standing barrel for repeating with two hammers, and a silvered regulating dial signed Antoni, Brad. The white metal dust cap is signed Augs, burg. The champlevé dial has Roman numerals for hours, an arcaded minute track with Arabic numerals, and blued steel beetle and poker hands. The centre is adorned with banners signed Augspurr. The watch is housed in two cases: an inner gold case, intricately pierced and engraved with scrolls, and an outer gold case, featuring repoussé work depicting a historical scene and pierced with scrolls.
