Brass hour-striking verge clock watch
–
A rare and large German brass, single-handed, hour-striking clock watch from the 16th century. The watch features a gilt movement and a verge escapement. The dial is engraved with Roman numerals, half-hour markers, and inner 24-hour Arabic divisions. The German letter Z represents the numeral two. The clock has a steel hand, raised buttons for easy time reading in the dark, and a pinhole for setting the striking. The brass case is engraved and has a tambour shape. The front cover is hinged and has twelve openings to reveal the hour markers. The side or band of the case is pierced to allow the sound of the bell to be heard when the watch strikes the hour.
The signature on the timepiece is A.K. The marking on the watch shows the letters AK within a shield.
