Important chronometer with a spherical hairspring
–
An historically important chronometer with a spherical hairspring, made by Carl Moritz Grossmann in Glashütte, Germany, circa 1853. The numbered typical Glashütte case is crafted from silver and features gold hinges, a screwed down crown and a cuvette inscribed with the name of the probable English retailer “Hunter & Co” in London. The enamel dial features an outer minutes and hours track with Roman hour numerals, a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock and steel hands. The numbered movement is equipped with a very early Glashütte chronometer escapement with gold wheels, a chronometer balance wheel, a bishop’s crook lever and an extremely rare spherical hairspring.
The dial is signed.
