Unsigned heart-form verge watch
–
A gilt metal, heart shaped verge watch designed in the late 16th or early 17th century style, dating from the 19th or 20th century. The watch features a heart shaped unsigned gilded full plate movement with verge escapement, a single arm steel balance equipped with a hog’s bristle regulator, and a stackfreed mounted to the backplate. It has a gilded dial, a chapter ring adorned with Roman numerals and half hour divisions, an inner 24 hour ring, and a dial centre and a border decorated with engraved foliate scrolls bearing the year 1591. The cast silver gilt case has front and back covers centred with a putto, surrounded by garlands of fruit and foliage, while the band is similarly decorated with memento mori.

Length excluding bow: 45 mm

Signed: No name

Movement is functioning, with scratches on the backplate. The dial is in good condition. The case shows wear and rubbing to the decoration, resulting in a loss of definition. The gilding is patchy and worn.
