A fine, heavy American lever pocket watch with original wooden box, circa 1885. This watch features a 14K red gold case with an intricately engraved monogram and factory glazing. It has an enamel dial with Arabic numerals, an outer minutes track with red five-minute numerals, a subsidiary dial for seconds, and decorative blued steel hands. The watch also has a 4/5 plate movement with an anchor escapement and a gold screw compensation balance.

Edward Howard (1813-1904) was an American watchmaker who founded the American Watch Company with Aaron Dennison in 1851. However, Howard’s real interest was clocks, and he founded a company, initially called Howard & Davis, but later known as Howard Watch & Clock Co. (for clocks and clocks).
