A very fine and heavy English 18 carat gold precision pocket watch, circa 1823. Full plate movement, key wind, chain and fusee, a spring detent escapement, bimetallic chronometer balance with two screws and two segmental weights, free-sprung blued helical balance spring. A frosted 18 carat gold, two-tone dial with applied rose gold Roman hours, outer minute dots, auxiliary seconds with an engine-turned centre at 6 o’clock and spade & whip hands. The case with a chased and engraved band, pendant and bow, engine-turned back and maker’s mark TH for Thomas Hardy. Movement signed and numbered, case numbered, movement and case with matching numbers.
