An interesting silver Dutch pair cased key wind pocket watch with date indicator and champlevé dial, circa 1710. Splendid Dutch full plate fire gilt verge movement with worm wheel set-up between the plates, fusee and chain, Pierced and engraved balance cock and fully decorated main plate, silver regulation disc, five-arm iron balance. Signed on the main plate.
Pair cased, protective silver polished case, inner case also made in polished silver.
Signed silver Champlevé dial, pierced centre with the English Edward’s crown, as well as lion and unicorn as shield holders on a gilt ground, date aperture at 12 o’clock. decorative gilt hands, Roman numerals, and Arabic outer 5-minute divisions.

Andries Vermeulen (circa 1680-1752) came from Emmerik and came to Amsterdam before 1708. He is mentioned in the register of ‘Good Men’ in 1716. This was a list of masters that was comprised by the clockmakers themselves on demand of the city. Vermeulen is regarded as one of the best Dutch watchmakers, at the beginning of the 18th century. In 1742 he is listed as the best-earning craftsman in Amsterdam.
