Pocket watch with a corresponding chatelaine by Brothers Veigneur
–
An impressive, Swiss pearl set gold enamel Geneva spindle(verge) pocket watch with corresponding gold enamel chatelaine, circa 1800.
Full plate movement, chain/fusee, three-arm brass balance. Enamel dial with Arabic radial hours, outer minutes track with fifteen minutes numerals, and gold pierced Cathedrale hands. 18K gold, polychrome enamel case.
This precious ensemble of exceptional quality consists of a pocket watch and a chatelaine, both richly decorated with enamel and half-pearls. The back of the pocket watch is painted with a gallant scene in an idyllic landscape in the works of the Swiss painter Angelika Kauffmann (1741-1807). The background is engine-turned in a radial pattern and enamelled in translucent cobalt blue. The scene is framed by a row of half-pearls and a golden surface with white champlevé flowers. The two bezels on the front and back are covered with a double row of half-pearls.
The corresponding gold enamel chatelaine is in three parts and decorated with polychrome painted enamel plaques and cultured pearls. A key, a signet and two pendants are attached and decorated, as it were, length 250 mm.

From 1796 to 1802, there was a partnership with Louis Ceret, one of the two directors of the Manufacture Royale de Montres à Ferney, founded by the philosopher Voltaire. At that time, the factory operated under Veigneur Frères & Louis Ceret.
