Large gold watch with striking mechanism
–
A particularly large, impressive gold pocket watch number 9387 with striking mechanism and musical mechanism, made by Charles Fredèric Robert, probably in Genève, Switzerland, circa 1820. The open faced case of the watch is crafted from 18 Carat gold and features exquisite engine turned decoration on the back. One of the most striking features of this watch is its white enamel dial, which is beautifully preserved and complemented by blued Breguet hands. The movement of the watch boasts an extremely fine calibre cylinder movement with a quarter hour repeater and music mechanism. The music mechanism is automatically triggered every hour and can also be activated at any time via a slide, providing a delightful auditory experience for the owner.
The dial is signed.

Charles Frederic Robert
Charles Fredèric Robert was a watchmaker in Geneva during the 19th century. He was known for creating high quality pocket watches, including chronometers and repeaters. He also produced some wristwatches, but these were not as common during his time. His watches were often highly decorated and featured intricate designs on the dials and cases. Some of his most notable creations include a pocket watch with a perpetual calendar and moon phases, as well as a minute repeater with a striking mechanism that played a melody.
