Gold lever with split-second chronograph

A very fine and rare Swiss, 18K yellow gold, five-minute repeating keyless pocket watch, circa 1887. With split-second chronograph, 60-minute and 12-hour instantaneous. register. A polished case, concealed hinge, case back engraved To Vance From Dad 1949, slide for locking the chronograph at 11 o’clock, a button for split seconds between 10 and 11. Hinged gold cuvette.

White enamel dial with radial Arabic numerals, outer minute and fifths of a second division, outermost red Arabic five-second numerals, subsidiary 60-minute register and 12-hour register. Blue steel spade hands. Three-quarter plate movement, 32 jewels, counterpoised straight-line lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance, blued steel Breguet balance spring, swan neck micrometre regulator, repeating on gongs activated by a slide on the band. Dial, case and movement signed Tiffany & Co.
