This piece belongs to an extremely rare group of jumping hour watches made by Patek Philippe. Jumping hour watches, both pocket and wristwatches, were made in notably small numbers, and often only by special order.
–
The present watch was made especially for the prominent Philadelphia retailer, Bailey, Banks & Biddle originally founded in 1832.
–
Jumping hour pocket watches first appeared in the early 19th century and came into fashion during the Art Deco period. The visually unique, clean and simplistic dial configuration matched perfectly with the Deco style defined by ultra-modern, sleek and polished finishes.
