–
A Swiss hunting cased pocket watch with split seconds chronograph, circa 1889. This watch features a nickel plated movement with a straight line lever escapement, a cut bimetallic compensation balance, and a blued steel Breguet balance spring. It includes an index regulator and a repeater mechanism that chimes on gongs, activated by a slide on the band. The enamel dial showcases radial Roman numerals for the hours, an outer minutes/seconds track with Arabic five minute/second markers, auxiliary seconds, and blued split seconds and spade hour/minute hands. The dial is signed Patek Philippe & Co. Genève.

The polished 18 carat gold à goutte case is engraved with 1907 on the front and a monogram on the back. The case, dial, and movement are signed. This timepiece is accompanied by a Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming its date of sale as June 14, 1907.

The movement runs smoothly, and the split seconds chronograph functions as intended. The case is in fair condition, showing visible signs of wear throughout. The dial remains in good condition, with the enamel intact. Upon close inspection, fine surface pits and scratches are noticeable to the naked eye.

The earliest known Patek Philippe split seconds chronograph watches date from 1879 to 1880. The present watch, made in 1889, remains a very early example.
