Gilt-brass marine chronometer in mahogany box

A very fine American two day marine chronometer with power reserve indicator, circa 1941. Nickel full plate movement with Geneva Striping decoration, baluster pillars secured by screws, 14 jewels, fusee with chain and maintaining power, a spring detent escapement, two arm patented ovalizing Volet balance with Invar arm and steel rim, free sprung Elinvar Extra polished helical balance spring with terminal curves. Silvered dial with upright Arabic hours, an outer minute track, subsidiary seconds at 6 o’clock, an up and down scale at 12 and blackened steel spade hands. The mahogany box with brass handles, all the edges and corners protected by heavy brass inlay, the glazed upper section with a hinged lid locked by a catch. A brass bowl and gimbaled suspension, a ratchet key in its socket in the back right corner.
Dial, movement and box signed, movement numbered. Comes in a fitted wooden box with a leather strap and ratchet key.
