A fine and unusual Swiss gold, enamel, and diamond set watch in the form of a mandolin with a concealed dial, circa 1830. With hinged movement, gilt brass full plate with cylindrical pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, three armed steel balance, finely pierced and chased continental cock, gilt regulator plate. White enamel dial, Arabic numerals, minute division and gold spade hands. Gold case, soundboard with cream enamel and single leaf branch, diamond set soundhole, gold wreath border, the neck in alternating black enamel and gold straps, the vaulted back with alternating sections of chased and black enamelled panels, gold twist wire strings, gold suspension chain. Comes with the original fitted presentation box and key.
