This watch was retailed by Maison Fouquet, the venerable Parisian jewellery firm founded by Alphonse Fouquet. The firm was at the forefront of the Art Nouveau and Art Deco jewellery movement. The enamel decoration of the present watch is very similar to a series of watches which were presented at the Paris Exposition of 1925. This enamel technique is distinctly Art Deco and today very few similar examples are known.
–
Between 1880 and 1930, Vacheron Constantin worked in close collaboration with Verger Frères, a renowned French firm that was known to be the Paris representative of Vacheron Constantin. In this partnership, Vacheron Constantin would create movements and upon arrival in Paris, Verger Frères would case them in watch and clock cases. Many of the finest clocks known in the Art Deco period were collaborations between these two celebrated firms. These pieces made brilliant use of carved hardstones, favouring Eastern themed motifs. Additional items from this collaboration were also retailed in many other fine jewellery salons of the era, such as Tiffany & Co, Lacloche Frères, Ostertag, Van Cleef & Arpels, and Black, Starr & Frost.
