An exceptional, unique and historically important Swiss platinum open faced one minute tourbillon pocket watch made by Patek Philippe in Geneva for Henry Graves Jr in New York, U.S.A., circa 1932. The nickel finished lever movement numbered twice and stamped with the Geneva seal, fitted with 18 jewels, a Guillaume balance, polished steel three armed tourbillon cage by James Pellaton and a central jewel carried in gold screwed châton. A platinum cuvette with the engraved inscription No 198311 Awarded First First Prize Geneva Astronomical Observatory Timing Contest 1933-1934 Points 872. Made For Henry Graves Jr New York by Patek Philippe & Co Geneva Switzerland. Platinum dial with black Roman hour numerals, an outer minute track, subsidiary seconds at 6 o’clock and blued spade hands. A heavy case with a concealed hinge, and an engraved coat of arms and the motto Esse Quam Videri (rather to be than to seem in English) on the reverse. Case, cuvette, dial and movement signed and numbered. Comes with the original fitted wooden presentation box and a Bulletin d’Observatoire.
