–
Jan Jansz II Bockeltz was the Haarlem teacher in 1621 of Jacob Cornelisse van Casbeeck, who was born in 1601. Van Casbeeck got a relationship with Saertgen Adriaans, the wife of his teacher.
In 1625 the bomb burst, and his wife blamed Bockeltz for all types of shameful behaviour, including incest.
She tried to get him to jail, and although Bockeltz could prove his innocence, his reputation had been violated.
–
He went to live in The Hague in 1626 and became the first watchmaker in that city. His wife and van Casbeeck left for London in 1626, where they lived as man and wife. Their daughter was born in 1628, and that was, for Bockeltz, the reason for a divorce in 1632.
–
This incident seems unimportant were it not for Bockeltz was the main watchmaker in Haarlem and probably of entirely Holland. He probably made the first little oval watches in Puritan style.
–
This Renaissance watchmaker made this beautiful, oval neck watch around 1630 in The Hague. Jan Jansz II Bockeltz died in 1665.
