Very rare silver oval verge by Simon Bartram
–
An English silver, gilded brass and steel oval verge pendant watch, circa 1630.
This exquisite timepiece boasts a full plate movement that is adorned with fire gilt and showcases a pierced and engraved pinned-on balance cock, plain steel balance, ratchet and click set-up, and early Egyptian pillars with engraved decoration. The silver centre of the dial is meticulously engraved with floral motifs and is further enhanced with Roman numerals, half and quarter divisions, and a blued steel hand. The gilded brass outside of the dial is no less ornate and features intricate engraved floral decorations. The silver case, finished in a matte texture, adds to the understated elegance of this watch. A notable feature of this timepiece is the signature on the back plate of the movement, which is a testament to its craftsmanship and provenance. Overall, this watch is a masterpiece that embodies the finest traditions of horology.
