The French Revolution calendar, also called the Republican calendar (French calendrier révolutionnaire français or calendrier républicain), was created as a result of the French Revolution of 1789 and was officially in use from 22 September 1792 to 31 December 1805. One month was divided into three decades of 10 days each. At the end of the year, five days were added, the so-called supplementary days. The days of each decade were named with their Latin name: Primidi, the first day of the first decade; Duodi, the second day of the first decade; Tridi, the third day of the first decade; and Decadi, the 10th day. Sunday is our Decadi. So in the revolution calendar, unlike our four Sundays a month, there were only three Decadi! Due to the relatively short time during which this calendar was used, pocket watches with this indication are extremely rare.
