Rare eight day duplex watch for the Chinese market
–
A rare and technically interesting eight day duplex watch for the Chinese market, made by Pavel Buhre in St Petersburg, Russia, circa 1850. The beautiful open faced case was crafted from silver and has a coined band, a Chinese signature and an engraved back. The numbered cuvette is inscribed with Eight Day’s movement and Duplex escapement. The white enamel dial has an outer five minute scale with Arabic numerals, Roman hour numerals, a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock and particularly beautiful filigree steel hands. The very rare bar movement has two barrels for the long running time of eight days, a duplex escapement and key winding.
The dial and case are signed in Cyrillic (dial) and Chinese (case).
