English gem, mother of pearl set quarter repeater Circa 1720

A fine and rare English gold gem and mother of pearl set pair cased quarter repeating repeating watch made for the English market, circa 1720. Gilt verge movement, baluster pillars, winged balance cock pierced and engraved with scrolls. Gold champlevé dial with arcaded chapter ring, Roman numerals spaced by green stones, silver dust cap engraved with British Royal Arms. The inner case pierced and engraved with scrolls inhabited by putti and birds. The outer case set with mother of pearl cartouches applied with gold openwork scroll motif further set with various green color stones, the gold reserves with openwork foliate motif. Dial and movement signed, both cases stamped with casemaker’s mark ‘AG’.
