Gold center seconds watch with astronomical indications and exposed balance

A rare, large English gold, enamel and split pearl center seconds pocket watch with atronomical indications and exposed balance, circa 1797. Gilt full plate movement. White enamel dial plate with mean time dial ring at 6 o’clock, ages of the moon and paste set exposed balance above revolving moon below 12 o’clock, all flanking a polychrome enamel lake scene of a castle and two boys fishing in the foreground. The case back fitted with a finely painted polychrome enamel miniature of a seated lady reading a letter, framed with split pearl border, the surround further decorated with gold filigree partly set with seed pearl set floral sprays, split pearl set band.

It is interesting to note that the date 1797 is visible in the letter held by the lady. The letter is indistinctly signed, perhaps with the name of the enameler.
