Marine deck chronometer with original clock paper
–
An early, rare and small marine chronometer in original box, made by E. Dent & Co. in London, England, circa 1850. The original three part mahogany box with glimbal suspension has the original clock paper in the lid and the open faced case of this watch was crafted from original brass.
The silvered dial has black Roman hour numerals, a power reserve indicator at twelve o’clock, a subsidiary seconds dial at six o’clock with black Arabic numerals and gold hands. The early small chronometer movement has a Dent’s special chronometer balance with trapezoidal weights, a helical hairspring, a diamond end stone and a spring detent chronometer escapement.
Dial and case have matching numbers and the dial is signed
