This ladies’ hunting case pocket watch is well-preserved and has a red gold case that is finely engine-turned. On the front, it has a beautifully designed monogram, MMG. According to the current owner, the watch was a gift from Thomas Mann to her grandmother, Maria Müller-Gastell. Maria came from the family of the Matheus Müller sparkling wine cellars in Eltville am Rhein. It is said that Thomas Mann wrote some chapters of his novel “Confessions of the Imposter Felix Krull” in the sparkling wine manufacturer’s villa, which served as the template for the novel. In the novel, Felix Krull was born into the household of a sparkling wine manufacturer and started his impostures from there.
