An important, highly complicated gold full hunter cased watch with perpetual calendar and minute repeater, made for Dürrstein Dresden, attributed to Audemars Piguet & Cie in le Brassus, Switzerland, circa 1900. The numbered full hunter faced case of this heavy quality watch was crafted from 18 carat gold, features the Dürrstein Dresden case punch and has a plain lids. The white three stepped enamel dial in Glashütte design features an outer ring with red Arabic five minute numerals, black Arabic hour numerals and dials at 3, 6, 9 and 12 o’clock for respectively the dates, moon phase and seconds, days and perpetual calendar and gold hands. The glazed gilt movement features a very fine precision lever escapement, a minute repeater, a perpetual calendar and moon phase.

This watch probably belongs to the series of 35 watches that Audemars Piguet delivered to Dürrstein in Dresden in 1900. These watches were not signed Audemars Piguet and featured typical Glashütte characteristics, including a three stepped Glashütte style dial and a gilt movement.

Dürrstein
Johannes Dürrstein (1847-1916) was a prominent German watch merchant and entrepreneur who founded the watch wholesaler Dürrstein & Comp. in 1874, the precursor to the Union Glashütte brand. He was not a watchmaker but a businessman who aimed to produce beautiful, accurate and affordable watches, establishing a significant presence in the German watch industry and distributing for A. Lange & Söhne.
