One of the rarest surviving caliber Jones’s
–
One of the most unusual surviving Type C caliber Jones’s movement watches, made by the International Watch Company in Schaffhausen, Switzerland, circa 1876. The full hunter case of this watch is crafted from 18 carat gold and features engine turned lids, with a fishing heron in a cartouche at the center of the spring lid and an empty cartouche at the center of the back lid. The glazed enamel dial features an outer minutes and hour track with Roman hour numerals, a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock and blued steel hands. The numbered Jones caliber type C movement is equipped with a lever escapement.
The dial is signed.

The watch comes from the most famous and largest collection of Jones calibers. It is assumed that only about 500 Jones caliber pocket watches have survived, of which about 80 are key wound and about five are the “C” version. This makes the one presented here one of the rarest IWC pocket watches.
