Gold, enamel and rose-cut diamond-set watch

A very fine and rare French 18K gold, painted on enamel and rose-cut diamond-set watch, circa 1780. Quarter repeating watch with original matching gold and painted-on enamel châtelaine. Louis XVI case, the back finely painted on enamel with a couple in a landscape by an altar of love, outer chased leaf border highlighted with green enamel and set with rose-cut diamonds, band chased with a repeated pattern, rose-cut diamond-set bezel.

Châtelaine with four panels of enamel on gold, gold spoon, the top panel painted en suite with the watch, the three smaller panels with painted on enamel panels of a woodland, doves and a dog by a basket of flowers, all within en suite frames and four chains, one for the key. White enamel dial, radial Roman numerals, outer minute track and Arabic five-minute numerals and elaborate hands. A frosted gilt full-plate movement with cylindrical pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, brass balance with flat balance spring, continental cock with polished steel endplate, repeating on a bell in the back of the case activated by depressing the pendant. Dial and movement signed chatelaine punched with master mark PG beneath a crown.
