Gold open faced verge pocket watch

A very fine and rare Swiss, 18K gold quarter repeating pocket watch, circa 1820. Prince Louis de Montholon by Piaget, Neuchâtel area. In an Empire case, the back engine-turned in a radial pattern with a small monogram MS surmounted by a crown, engine-turned band, and polished bezel. Gilt metal-hinged cuvette with an aperture for the cock. Silver dial, champlevé radial Roman numerals on a polished ring, outer minute divisions, engine-turned centre. Blued steel Breguet hands. A frosted gilt full plate movement with cylindrical pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, brass balance with flat balance spring, single-footed jewelled cock terminated with polished steel star, repeating on gongs activated by depressing the pendant. Signed on dial and movement.
