A fine French large gilt metal, enamel and paste-set open faced verge pocket watch with outer protective case, circa 1785. A Louis XVI case by Leton, both bezels red enamelled, the front bezel set with stones, the back with a painted on enamel scene of a young couple in a landscape, a royal blue and gold paillon border and an outer engraved border to match the bezel. White enamel dial with radial Roman hours, outer dot minute divisions and Arabic fifteen-minute numerals, paste-set white metal hands. A gilt-brass full plate movement, cylindrical pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement with micrometric potence adjustment, three-arm brass balance, flat balance spring, continental balance cock, steel endplate, silvered regulation dial. Dial and movement signed.
