Gold open faced verge pocket watch

A Swiss 18 carat yellow gold open faced keywind pocket watch made by Louis Humbert between 1819 and 1835. This watch features a mechanical keywind cock movement with verge escapement and quarter repeating. The white enamelled dial displays Arabic numeral hour markers, an outer minute track, and blued steel hands. The 18 carat gold case has a guilloché caseband and back, and a gilded metal bowl. Signed on dial, movement, and bowl. Hallmarks Departments, 3rd title (Sphinx).

Aimé-Louis Humbert was likely born around 1770, the son of Théodore Louis Humbert (Dit Chez le Graveur) and Judith Ducommun. He was the brother of Héliodore Humbert, father of Amédor Humbert. Aimé-Louis married Emilie Droz. Their son, Aimé Humbert-Droz, was born on June 29, 1819, in La Chaux-de-Fonds. Aimé-Louis Humbert died in 1835.
