Rose gold watch with Jacquemarts by Chaudoir
–
A very fine Swiss 18 carat rose gold open faced quarter repeating verge pocket watch with two Jacquemarts and concealed three-colour gold erotic automaton, circa 1815. Full plate movement, key wind, chain and fusee, two hammers, two gongs, three-arm brass balance. The skeletonized dial with a Jacquemart automaton scene, the two Jacquemarts, a man and a woman, in three-colour gold period garments, strike the hours with their hammers on two large bells that are visible in the upper half of the dial, a central white enamel chapter ring with Arabic hours, an outer minute track and moon hands, a visible mirror-polished rack strike, the concealed automaton at 6 o’clock has small sliding doors of blued steel decorated with a chased three-colour gold image of Cupid, the doors open whenever the repeater is activated and the erotic scene comes to life: a couple making love on a Recamier sofa. An engine-turned sunray pattern on the case back with a vacant cartouche, reeded bezels and band. Dial signed, cuvette and movement signed and numbered, case numbered.
