Gold hunting cased lever watch
–
A Swiss 18 carat yellow gold hunting cased pocket watch made by Orion in Biel, circa 1910. It has a hand wound mechanical movement with a lever escapement. The white enamel dial shows painted black Arabic numerals for the primary hours (1–12), an inner 24 hour scale in red Arabic numerals (13–24), a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock, and gilt Louis XVI style hands. The round 18 carat yellow gold full hunter case is numbered and signed by the maker. The watch is missing its crystal, and the winding mechanism is incomplete. It has a fluted crown and a rounded bow at the 3 o’clock position.

Orion (Biel)
The Orion brand was registered in May 1896 by Brandt & Hofmann, successors of Ferdinand Bachschmid’s factory in Biel, Switzerland. Known for technical precision, the firm was a respected movement supplier, providing components to the prestigious house of Vacheron Constantin. By 1903, the company operated as the Orion Watch Co. and became Uhrenfabrik Orion A.G. in 1918. Their early 20th century pocket watches are recognised for robust in house calibres and were often housed in high grade 14K or 18K gold cases for the European luxury market.
