Gold open faced pendant wind lever watch

A fine Swiss 18 carat yellow gold open faced pocket watch with chain, made by Longines for retailer Vardon in Cherbourg, circa 1900. The watch has a mechanical, manually wound movement with a lever escapement, a Breguet balance spring, and a compensated bimetallic balance wheel, signed Longines. The round white enamel dial shows painted black Roman numerals for the hours, an outer minute track with Arabic numerals from 5 to 60, a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock, and blued steel spade hands. The timepiece is housed in an 18 carat solid yellow gold open faced case of French workmanship. It features a monogrammed case back decorated with chased foliate scrolls and a matching 18 carat gold cuvette signed Goupil Vardon à Cherbourg.

Accompanying the timepiece is a matching 18 carat yellow gold watch chain weighing 21 g. and measuring 38 cm in length. The chain is styled with openwork oval links featuring stylized decoration and secured with traditional lobster clasps and a spring ring.
