Gold open faced manual wind lever watch
–
A fine Swiss 18 carat yellow gold Art Deco open faced pocket watch, circa 1920. This watch has a mechanical manual wind movement with frosted gilt, separate finger bridges, a lever escapement, and an index regulator marked with the French terms Avance and Retard. The gilded checkerboard pattern dial, signed Chronomètre, features elegant gold applied stylised Breguet numerals for the hours, outer minute dots with black 13 to 24 hour markers, a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock, and ornate gold cathedral style hands. The timepiece is housed in a refined 18 carat yellow gold case with a smooth bezel, a fluted winding crown, and a sturdy round suspension bow. The hinged officer ‘s style back cover is fully enhanced with vertical grooved pinstripe engraving, centring a polished shield shaped cartouche and completed by an inner metal cuvette.
