The name Moulinié goes back to the company Moulinié & Bautte, which manufactured cases for pocket watches for Jean-Francois Bautte (1793-1802) in Geneva in the last decade of the 18th century. As early as 1804, the company, known under the name Moulinier, Bautte & Cie, was producing watches. From 1808 to 1821 it was already known for its high-quality watches. The partners separated in 1826, Bautte formed Bautte & Moynier, and Moulinié formed Moulinié Aine & Cie, which after 1840 became Moulinié Frères & Cie. In 1862 the company exhibited under the name Moulinie & Legrandroy at the world exhibition in London and received a medal. Twenty years later the name had changed again to J.-W. Legrandroy & Fils and Le Grand Roy & Fils.
