An unusual and heavy gold Swiss open faced dodecagonal keyless lever watch with an annual calendar and Signs of the Zodiac, circa 1985. The watch features a gilded cal. 9723 movement with decorative engravings of the zodiac signs, a lever escapement, a jewelled centre, and a compensation balance for precision regulation. It is signed and numbered by IWC. The dial has a silvered satin finish with a chapter ring displaying Roman numerals, an outer minute ring, a matte gilded ring with raised polished zodiac signs and corresponding symbols, blued steel hands, and an outermost scale calibrated for the annual calendar indicated via a central gold sun tipped hand. It is signed International Watch Co., Schaffhausen.

The 18k gold dodecagonal shaped case features a polished bezel and hinged back, a satin finished band, a glazed exhibition cuvette with a broad polished gold rim, a gold dodecagonal shaped pendant and crown, and an olivette to the right of the pendant for date adjustment. The case is signed and numbered by International Watch Co. as 2306219.

Movement is in good running condition. To advance the date annually, the crown must be pulled out into the hand setting position. Then, with the olivette’s button to the right of the pendant pressed in, the date can be advanced by turning the crown. The dial is generally in good overall condition, with two very light and minor scratches visible under magnification: one at the central part of the dial by 8 o’clock, and another very light scratch towards 2-3 o’clock. The case is in good condition, with some light scuffs and tarnishing.
