Gold open faced musical watch by Piguet & Meylan

A fine Swiss gentleman’s quarter repeating pocket watch with musical movement playing on the hour or at will, circa 1820.
Case 18 carat gold, gilt hinged cuvette, lever in the band to activate the music, lever from under the cuvette for music/silent.
Gold dial with Roman numerals, outer minute track, engine-turned center.Blued steel serpentine hands.
Gilt brass movement with fixed barrels and cylinder escapement, three-arm gold balance with flat balance spring, sur plateau musical movement, vibrating blades acting on both sides of the pinned disc, repeating on gongs by depressing the pendant.
Movement punched PM in a lozenge on the dial plate for Piguet & Meylan.

A rare example of this type of musical watch with Piguet & Meylan’s punch mark on the dial plate, therefore confirming its manufacture by this most illustrious of makers. In very good overall condition with crisp case, save a few tiny dents on the band, attractive gold dial with beautiful serpentine hands and movement playing a pretty and clear tune.
