Unsigned gold, silver, diamond and ruby-set pendant watch
–
A Swiss/French gold, silver, diamond and ruby-set Louis XVI-style pendant watch with on the back a ruby-set turtle, circa 1880. This watch features an unsigned Swiss gilded movement with a cylinder escapement and a plain flat three-arm balance. The dial is white enamel with Roman numerals, an outer Arabic minute ring, and gold filigree hands. The silver and gold Louis XVI-style case has back pavé diamond set and is centred with a ruby-set turtle. It also has a diamond-set bezel and is suspended from a short diamond-set brooch in the form of a bow. The polished silver-gilt cuvette bears the maker’s mark SG with a key in a lozenge-shaped cartouche, along with a French control mark and the number 35646.

The watch is not running even when fully wound, but a slight impulse to the balance will briefly engage the escapement. It requires cleaning and servicing. The hand-setting function works properly. The dial has a chip near the ‘0’ of 50 and some scratches. All stones on the case appear to be present, and the covers close securely.
