A Swiss, gold and diamond set, keyless-wind, full hunter minute repeating chronograph pocket watch Mistral, circa 1920.
A polished 18-carat yellow case with applied decoration and diamonds. An enamel dial with Roman radial hours, outer minutes/seconds track with Arabic five minutes/seconds numerals, subsidiary dial for the constant seconds, and gold Louis XV hands. And a gilded brass movement with straight-line lever escapement, compensated balance, and a palladium hairspring with a terminal curve.

In 1881, Achille Ditesheim set up a workshop in La Chaux-de-Fonds with six watchmakers to establish pocket watches. In 1886 the brothers Léopold and Isidore Ditesheim joined Achille Ditesheim ‘s company . The company was now called LAI Ditesheim. LAI Ditesheim started developing wristwatches around 1900.

In 1905 a new production building was built, and “Movado” (Esperanto: always on the move) was registered as the company name. In 1912, Movado launched the Polyplan, followed in 1926 by the Ermeto case watch. In 1924 the first Movado agency was opened in the USA (New York). Movado made many different calendar watches, mostly with gold cases.

In 1969 the ” Mondia – Zenith – Movado” was founded. Subsequently, the newly released automatic chronograph calibre El Primero watches were signed with either Movado or Zenith. It was remarkably flat with a height of 6.5 mm and a ball-bearing rotor, and a fast-oscillating balance wheel with 36,000 A/h. The El Primero was available in different case and dial variants, signed by Zenith and Movado. Due to the cooperation with Zenith, the company headquarters were moved to Le Locle in 1971.

In 1983, Movado joined the Movado Group, Inc. At the end of 2003, it also took over the well-known manufacturer Ebel.
