A gentleman’s technically outstanding automatic pocket watch with full calendar and early oscillating weight winding movement, circa 1788.
18 Carat pink gold case, polished, with fluted bezel, case maker’s punch mark DFML, lever to stop the centre seconds, and large lateral hinge. Signed enamel dial with Roman numerals on eccentric hour indicator, centre seconds, subsidiary chapter ring indicating the weekdays and the date, subsidiary chapter ring indicating the months with the numbers of days, power reserve indicator, and gold hands. Oscillating weight winding movement, fire gilt, frosted, signed, with cylinder escapement.

Moyse Gevri, Swiss watchmaker
Moyse Gevril (Moÿse – Gevrille) was the son of Jacques Gevril and was born in Le Locle in 1749 and lived in Crêt Vaillant near Le Locle . He became a master watchmaker in 1784 and manufactured pocket watches with automatic winding using swing weight. He delivered clocks to Ph. Du Bois & Fils, in the archives of Du Bis, is recorded with 18 clocks, presumably with automatic winding. Moyse founded the company Moyse Gevril & Fils. The watch shown was delivered to Frères Petit in Paris.
