Gold open faced keyless lever watch
–
A fine French 18 carat yellow gold open faced pocket watch with chronograph functions and tachymeter made by LIP, circa 1910. It has a mechanical manual wind movement with a lever escapement, a Breguet balance spring, and a traditional column wheel mechanism. The multi scale white enamel dial shows bold black Arabic numerals for the hours, inner red 13 to 24 hour markers, a subsidiary continuous small seconds dial at 6 o’clock, and a subsidiary 30 minute chronograph register at 12 o’clock with calculated speed indications. The dial features a prominent concentric outer tachymeter scale detailed in blue and black, inscribed 60 KILOM A L HEURE at the top, and is swept by elegant gold hands and a dark steel chronograph hand. The dial bears a crisp LIP signature beneath the upper register.

The timepiece is housed in a substantial three body, 18 carat solid yellow gold open faced case with a polished bezel, a fluted winding crown with an integrated chronograph pusher, and a sturdy round suspension bow. The inner gold cuvette is crafted from solid 18 carat yellow gold.
