Unsigned gold and enamel watch for the Chinese market
–
A Swiss gold, enamel, pearl, and diamond-set cylinder watch with an exposed balance, circa 1820. The gilded movement features a steel cylinder and escape wheel, a standing barrel, and a polished steel protective bridge between the regulator arm and escape wheel. It is numbered 1415 on the main plate beneath the white enamel dial, which has Roman numerals, an outer Arabic minute ring, blued steel hands, and an aperture for a diamond-set visible balance above, surrounded by pearls and decoratively engraved and pearl-set cornucopias of flowers.
–
The gold case has a back with polychrome enamel painted flowers overlaid by diamond-set butterflies and a harp further set with seed pearls, turquoises, and rubies against a green guilloché ground. It also features split pearl-set bezels, a band of vari-colour gold stylized flowers and foliage framed by opaque blue and red guilloché enamel geometric motifs, a split pearl-set pendant and bow, and a polished gold hinged cuvette with apertures for winding and hand setting, with a pusher through the pendant to open the back.

The movement is not running, but with a gentle push, the balance and escapement will briefly engage. The dial has a couple of light hairlines above 12 o’clock, and the green guilloché enamel surround has scratches and some chips, especially between 2 and 3 o’clock. The case panel has been removed at some point and seems to have been restored with hard enamel. All pearls appear to be present.
