A gentleman’s important half pearl studded gold enamel quarter repeating pocket watch with musical movement, for the Chinese market, circa 1820.
18k rose gold case, back with polychrome enamelling; oval medallion in a Champlevé enamel border, rim with engine turned pattern and translucent red enamelling: a mother sewing and keeping watch over a baby in a cot. Case band, pendant and bow with Champlevé ornamentation; half pearl studded bezels, pendant and bow; on/off lever for the strike “N/S”. Enamel dial, radial Roman numerals, blued lozenge hands. Bridge movement, keywind, frosted, gilt, 2 hammers, 2 gongs, 2 going barrels, cylinder escapement, three arm ring balance, musical movement with pinned disc and tuned vibrating blades, mirror- polished, bevelled lever for musical movement.
