A beautiful Swiss yellow gold, enamel, and diamond set half open faced watch with an associated yellow gold, enamel, diamond, and emerald set pendant, retailed by Spaulding & Co. circa 1897. The watch features a ligne mechanical movement with lever escapement and a white enamel dial with Breguet radial hours, an outer minute ring, and Louis XV style hands. The red and yellow gold bassine style case is adorned with varicoloured guilloché enamel and a diamond set, depicting an Egyptian landscape and Sphinx in relief and a gold sun. Additionally, it comes with an associated 14k yellow gold, red guilloché enamel, diamond, and emerald set pendant rendered as a dragon with a sword.

The dial is signed by the retailer, and the maker and retailer sign the case and movement. It is accompanied by the Patek Philippe Certificate of Origin, confirming that the present lot was made for Spaulding & Co., Chicago, and an Extract from the Archives confirming the date of sale on June 28, 1898. Also included are a Spaulding & Co. pamphlet, a service document dated March 27, 2018, a service box, and a service hang tag.

The case is in good condition with light polishing. There is patina and wear on the bow, a small nick on the lip of the hinged case back, and subtle loss to the green enamel palms between 1 and 2 o’clock. The sunburst guilloché enamel back is well defined with a sphinx. The diamonds are intact. The case number has rubbed off in some areas on the interior of the case back. The cuvette has superficial scuffs. The hands have been refinished, as noted in the service invoice dated March 27, 2018. The dial is intact and signed by the retailer. The movement is operating and running.
