Pink gold open faced gentleman’s watch

An exquisite Swiss 18 carat pink gold open faced gentleman’s chronometer pocket watch made by Paul-David Nardin in Le Locle, circa 1887. Comes with an extract from the chronometer archives by Andreas Hidding. The case is polished. It has a signed white enamel dial with Breguet hour numerals, an outer minute track, a subsidiary dial for the seconds at 6 o’clock and spade hands. The bridge movement is fitted with a lever escapement and gold screw compensation balance.

Paul-David Nardin, Swiss watchmaker
Paul-David Nardin was born on November 3, 1855, as the son of watchmaker Ulysse Nardin. He took over his father’s business after his death on February 20, 1876, just 21 years old.

He married Lucie Louise Caroline Monnerat in Neuchâtel on September 8, 1879. From this marriage, 15 children were born, of whom five children died very young. Of the sons, Alfred, Ernest, Gaston and Jacques followed in their father’s footsteps. Only Jacques did not stay in the family business. He worked at DOXA.
