Gold hunting cased keyless lever watch
–
A fine Swiss gold full hunter pocket watch with exquisite polychrome miniature enamel paintings on both sides, made by Vacheron & Constantin in Geneva, circa 1900. It has a high quality mechanical crown winding movement with a lever escapement, signed Vacheron & Constantin. The white enamel dial shows black Arabic numerals for the hours, an outer minute track, a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock, and sleek gold toned spade hands. The dial is signed Vacheron & Constantin, Genève.

The timepiece is housed in a magnificent yellow gold full hunter case with beautifully engraved floral borders. The front cover opens to reveal the dial and features a polychrome enamel miniature painting of the Virgin and Child framed by a banner reading CALIXTUS CLAVIJO DEI ET APOSTOLICAE SEDIS GRATIA EPISCOPUS PACENSIS (Calixtus Clavijo, by the grace of God and the Apostolic See, Bishop of Badajoz). The reverse back cover is adorned with a highly detailed, hand painted, miniature polychrome enamel portrait of a Cardinal in purple robes. The case is completed by a fluted winding crown and a sturdy round suspension bow.
