Rose gold, enamel and half pearl-set watch for the Chinese market

An important Swiss 18K rose gold, enamel and half pearl-set open faced hour striking and repeating musical pocket watch made for the Chinese market, circa 1820. Gilt frosted bridge movement, key-winding, two going barrels, cylinder escapement, three-arm ring balance, Piguet & Meylan‘s double-sided pinned disc musical mechanism (sur plateau) with vibrating blades acting on both sides of the disc mirror-polished, a bevelled lever for musical movement. Gold cuvette with blue floral champlevé enamel. White enamel dial, radial Roman hours, centre seconds and blued serpent hands. The case back with a finely painted polychrome enamel miniature depicting King Arthur and Emmeline holding a mirror belonging to her attendant Matilda where she sees King Arthur’s reflection, the band champlevé enamel with gold foliage decoration, translucent dark blue enamel pendant and bow, half pearl-set bezels, pendant and bow, slide for activating the musical movement at 1 o’clock, lever for setting silent/music at 11, case maker’s mark PM for Piguet & Meylan.
